Oizumi-Gakuen Station on the Seibu-Ikebukuro Line is best known to be closest to the Toei Animation Gallery (and Toei Studios), as well as near the home of famed manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, creator of Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock, and also worked on Space Battleship Yamato. Inside, Galaxy Express character Mr. Conductor greets passengers as the enter the station. Outside of the North Entrance, there is a plaza that honors the area's connection to the many animation works done by Toei over the decades, including pictorial displays, timelines, and statues of classic anime characters, such as Tetsuwan Atom (Mighty Atom, or Astro-Boy in the West); Galaxy Express 999's Maeter and her young traveling companion Tetsuro Hoshino; boxer Joe Yabuki from Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow's Joe); and the alien invader Lamu (Lum), from Rumiko Takahashi's zany comedy Urusei Yatsura.
